You keep doing this until you get to a number in the 7 times table. If you do it and you don't come across a number in the 7 times table then the number can't be divided by 7.

8 : You know if a number can be divided by 8 because it must be even. Also, when you divide it by 2 the number must be even. And when you divided469 it by 2 again it must be even.

9 : You know if a number can be divided by 9 because when you add all the digits together the answer must be in the 9 times table.

10 : You know if a number can be divided by 10 because the number must end in a 0.

11 : You know if a number can be divided by 11 because you put a takeaway then an add then a takeaway etc... inbetween the numbers. You work out the sum and the answer must be in the 11 times table.

EG1) Can 4693 be divided by 7 ?

Remove the 3 and double it = 6

469 - 3 = 463

Remove the 3 and double it = 6

46 - 6 = 40

Remove the 0 and double it = 0

4 - 0 = 4

4 is not in the 7 times table so therefore 4693 can't be divided by 7.

EG2) Can 1234 be divided by 11?

1 - 2 + 3 - 4

1-2 = -1

-1 + 3 = 2

2 - 4 = -2

-2 is not in the 11 times table so 1234 can't be divided by 11.
